Local Democracy Information Infrastructure Stack

Rules

Purpose: This map covers infrastructure that turns information about United States local government into civic knowledge and action.

Data: Must deal directly with public meetings, legislation, representative accountability, communication with representatives, or the local electoral process, including candidate and ballot information.

Infrastructure: Must build tools, standardize data, or provide a scalable, tech-enabled process.

Resident Engagement Infrastructure: General local activist groups and general-purpose engagement or consultation platforms sold to governments are excluded. Scaled engagement infrastructure is included when it helps residents use and act on local democracy information.

Public-Interest Purpose: Include tools built primarily to make government information usable for public-interest purposes. Exclude tools built primarily to monitor government for private commercial advantage.

Geography: Must have meaningful coverage or use in the United States. Tools limited to jurisdictions outside the United States are excluded.
